/working-hours

Use /working-hours to set a daily availability window on Mathematics. Sylvan adds @Moderators during those hours and removes it outside them. Your moderation powers and colours are unaffected.

Working Hours is available to @Senior Moderators, @Community Moderators, and @Trial Moderators. Run the command inside Mathematics. Replies are visible only to you.

Supply enable:true, a start time, an end time, and your timezone:

/working-hours enable:true start:09:00:00 end:17:00:00 timezone:Europe/London

This makes you available from 9am to 5pm every day, including weekends. Select your timezone from the autocomplete suggestions. Named timezones follow daylight-saving changes automatically, so your hours stay tied to the local clock.

The options are:

  • enable: required. Use true to set your hours or false to disable your schedule.
  • start: when your daily availability begins. Required when enabling.
  • end: when your daily availability ends. Required when enabling.
  • timezone: a named timezone such as Europe/London. Required unless both times include a fixed UTC offset.

To change your hours, run the command again with the complete replacement schedule. You cannot change just the start time, end time, or timezone.

Alternatively, put the same UTC offset on both times and leave out timezone:

/working-hours enable:true start:09:00:00+01:00 end:17:00:00+01:00

Fixed offsets stay fixed throughout the year. This example always uses UTC+1, even when your local clocks change. You can also use Z for UTC:

/working-hours enable:true start:09:00:00Z end:17:00:00Z

Do not combine a named timezone with fixed offsets. Both times must either omit offsets or include numerically equal offsets.

Use 24-hour HH:MM:SS times. Seconds are required: write 09:00:00, not 09:00. Fractional seconds, such as 09:00:00.5, are also accepted. Do not include dates or spaces. Hours must be 00–23, and minutes and seconds must be 00–59. Leap seconds and the offset -00:00 are not accepted.

Your window must last at least 20 minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the window continues into the next day:

/working-hours enable:true start:22:00:00 end:07:00:00 timezone:Europe/London

This makes you available from 10pm until 7am the following morning, repeating every day. Equal start and end times are not accepted as an all-day schedule.

Sylvan controls your @Moderators role according to your hours and overrides manual changes to that role. This also applies to exempt senior staff who choose to enable a schedule.

The start time is included in your availability window; the end time is not. Role changes may take a short time to appear. If the reply says your schedule was saved but role updates are pending, the schedule is saved and Sylvan still needs to finish applying the role change.

/working-hours enable:false

Do not include start, end, or timezone. This restores permanent availability for ordinary staff. Staff with a configured exemption role retain manual control of @Moderators instead.

To enable a schedule again, supply the complete schedule with enable:true.
